Monitoring your disk usage helps you avoid running out of storage, which can prevent email delivery and cause site errors. This guide explains how to check and reduce disk usage.
Checking Disk Usage
In cPanel, go to Files > Disk Usage. This shows a breakdown of space used by each directory. You can also see usage figures at the top right of the cPanel main page.
Common Disk Usage Culprits
- Email inboxes β emails accumulate over time; empty trash and delete old messages via webmail
- Website backups β old backups stored on the server take significant space; download and delete them
- WordPress uploads β images and media in
wp-content/uploads - Log files β server access logs grow daily; they can be removed from the
logsdirectory
Freeing Up Space
To reclaim disk space: delete old backups, empty email trash, remove unused Softaculous installations, and clear WordPress media you no longer need. If you consistently need more storage, upgrade your hosting plan.
