How to Create and Restore Backups

Regular backups are essential. They let you recover from accidental deletions, hacks, or failed updates. Double Hosting provides built-in backup tools in cPanel.

Creating a Full Account Backup

Go to Files > Backup. Click Download a Full Account Backup. Choose the backup destination (Home Directory) and enter your email for notification. Click Generate Backup. This packages all files, databases, and email into one archive.

Backing Up Files and Databases Separately

Under Backup Wizard, you can backup and restore individual components:

  • Home Directory β€” all website files
  • MySQL Databases β€” all or selected databases as .sql.gz files
  • Email Forwarders/Filters β€” email routing settings

Restoring a Backup

Go to Files > Backup Wizard > Restore. Select what you want to restore (Home Directory or MySQL Database), upload the backup file, and click Restore.

Warning: Restoring overwrites current data. Always create a fresh backup before restoring an old one.

Automated Backups

Double Hosting runs nightly server-level backups on all shared hosting accounts, retained for 7 days. Contact support to request a restore from one of these server backups.

Best practice: Keep your own off-server backups as well β€” download backups to your local machine or cloud storage monthly.
