Premium SSL certificates (Extended Validation or Organisation Validated) provide higher trust signals and are often required by enterprises, financial sites, and e-commerce platforms.
Step 1: Generate a CSR
In cPanel, go to Security > SSL/TLS > Generate an SSL certificate signing request (CSR). Fill in your organisation details accurately β these are verified by the Certificate Authority. Click Generate and copy the CSR text.
Step 2: Purchase and Validate
Submit the CSR to your Certificate Authority (e.g., DigiCert, Sectigo, GlobalSign). For EV certificates, you'll need to complete a business verification process (phone call, legal document submission). OV validation is lighter β typically an email or DNS check.
Step 3: Install the Certificate
Once your CA sends the certificate files, go to cPanel Security > SSL/TLS > Manage SSL Sites. Select your domain, paste the Certificate (CRT) text, the Private Key, and the CA Bundle. Click Install Certificate.
Step 4: Verify Installation
Visit your site in a browser. Click the padlock icon β you should see your organisation name listed in the certificate details. Use sslshopper.com/ssl-checker to confirm the certificate chain is complete and valid.
