How to Enable DDoS Protection

DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks flood your server with traffic, making your site unavailable. Double Hosting includes network-level DDoS protection on all plans, and you can add application-layer protection via Cloudflare.

Built-In Network Protection

All Double Hosting servers are protected by network-level DDoS mitigation that automatically detects and filters volumetric attacks. This protection is always on and requires no configuration from you.

Application-Layer Protection with Cloudflare

For stronger protection, route your traffic through Cloudflare's free plan. Cloudflare's Web Application Firewall and rate limiting block layer 7 (HTTP-level) DDoS attacks before they reach your server. Enable Cloudflare by updating your nameservers β€” see the Cloudflare CDN guide.

Setting Up Rate Limiting

In Cloudflare, go to Security > Rate Limiting. Create a rule to limit requests from a single IP to a reasonable threshold (e.g., 100 requests per minute to /*). Legitimate users are unaffected; bots and attack tools are blocked.

During an Active Attack

If your site is under an active DDoS attack, contact Double Hosting support immediately. Our team can enable additional mitigation measures and analyse attack patterns. Enabling Cloudflare's Under Attack Mode immediately reduces attack impact.
